The Cherai Beach is situated almost 26 kilometers from Ernakulam city, Kochi. It borders the northern end of Vypeen Island and is one of the most beautiful beaches in Kerala.
Here, one finds a unique blend of sea and backwaters that are a mix of estuaries, canals, lagoons and lakes. The beach also has lush green coconut palms and paddy fields.
This golden beach stretches for about 15 kilometers and has shallow and clean water just perfect for swimming, surfing and sunbathing. One may see the charming 400 meters newly beautified beach with a walkway and high mask lamps due to which the beach can be enjoyed at night also.
Due to the presence of trained security staff for 24 hours at the beach it is very safe and tourists belonging to all age groups can enjoy it. Here one can find seashells of several colors and shapes.
For children a park has been constructed on the beach while you can also hire and enjoy the rides on a speed boats and water scooter. One can enjoy the occasional sight of Dolphins.
On the far end of the beach, there are Chinese fishing nets which are a beautiful sight to behold. The highlight of the Cherai Beach is the ‘Poyil’ which is a huge inland lake that forms a section of the calm serene backwaters and can be distinguished from the ocean by a narrow sandbar.
Along the Cherai Beach, there are typical Kerala villages that have coconut groves and paddy fields. A boat ride along the paddy fields and palm fringed backwaters is a very memorable experience.
As the water is very calm and crystal clear, the visitor loses himself in the beauty of the surrounding Kerala village life.
