Kochi is situated in south-western India on the Malabar coast.
It is famous as a spice port for a long time and hence there is a long history of colonialists, traders and foreign visitors to this place that includes the Portuguese, the British, the Dutch and also the Chinese mariners who were related to Kublai Khan.
The air of Kochi is filled with the odor of the spices with the pepper in Kerala given the name ‘Black gold.’ True to its name, this spice has been identical to gold for Kochi for several centuries till date.
Kochi has godowns or spice warehouses that lead to a very strong and exotic odor on the streets.
This smell is concentrated and results in lung-piercing pain due to this it is impossible to stay in such an environment for more than a few minutes.
After this time interval one desires to seek shelter of a different place in the Cochin Spice Market where one is left gasping for air that would fill the mouth.

| The fragrance of spices is not lung piercing. The author has absolutely no idea what he is talking about. I doubt if he has even been to Cochin. The only streets in Cochin that are filled with the aroma of spices are Broadway and Mattanchery-Fort Kochi connection road (including Jews Street).
Secondly, Pepper is not revered in Cochin. 15 different spices are regularly used in Kerala cuisine.
The author should perhaps try going to the place and communicate with locals before writing blunders.
