Mattancherry Palace

The Mattancherry Palace is situated at Mattancherry in Kochi and is also called as the Dutch Palace. The traditional Kerala style of architecture called as the Nalukettu style is used to build this palace.

This is a quadrangular structure that has a courtyard in the middle. In this courtyard, a small temple has been built which is dedicated to Pazhayannur Bhagavati, which is regarded as the protective goddess of the Kochi royal family.

On either side of the palace, there are two more temples dedicated to Lord Shiva and Lord Krishna.

The proportion of the chambers and the nature of the arches seem influenced by the European style of architecture.

There is carved wooden ornate ceiling in the Dining Hall that is adorned with a sequence of brass cups.

The flooring appears like polished black marble. However, in reality it is a blend of burned coconut shells, egg whites, plant juices, lime and charcoal.
