The backwaters of Kochi are a sequence of saline lagoons and lakes that are parallel to the coast of the Arabian sea. The expanse from Kochi Azhi to Munambam Azhi is called as Veeranpuzha.
Here, one can see the longest lake in India called as Vembanad lake.
The Marine Drive faces the backwaters and is an economically thriving section of Kochi. There are many shopping malls in this place.
The drive has become a tourist destination as the rising and setting sun over the sea can be seen. Also, there is a gentle breeze from the Vembanad Lake.
During the evening, hundreds of people can be seen on the Marine Drive.
Fort Kochi is located on the Mattancherry peninsula. There are several tourist attractions like the Santa Cruz Basilica, the Mattancherry Palace and the cantilevered Chinese fishing nets.
The Hill Palace is spread over an area of 54 acres and consists of 49 buildings. This complex comprises of a Heritage museum, an archaeological museum, a pre-historic park, a Deer Park, and a children’s park.
