Souvenirs and handicraft items are found in plenty in Kovalam.
The city is known for its teakwood and rosewood statues, carpets, and ethnic clothes. One can check out at the shops which sell typical Tibetan, Kashmiri or Rajasthani items to get a wide choice of products.
SM Handloom Center is a place where can decide ones own style and choose from the list of material available to get ones own designed outfit. The rates are pretty reasonable though the outfits are exclusively for women only.
One can buy a variety of spices and tea such as cardamom, masala, cinnamon and more from the store Joseph & Sons. At the beaches there are shops selling silk sarongs and lunghis at reasonable rates, however one needs to bargain.
The Varkala Beach near Kovalam is a great place to shop for beachwear and jewelry made of seashells.
