The tourism department has started organizing a carnival at this place. It is planned that this would be an annual event in the years to come similar to the Goa carnival.
The coastline of Kovalam is beautiful, but the beaches are not recommendable. Usually, they are filled with garbage and builders rubble.
Also, as there are unprotected drops from the walkways to the beach area, it is a dangerous place for children.
The best feature of Kovalam is that there are numerous hotels and restaurants which are overcrowded due to the good seafood and fish.
During the non-monsoon season, the sand is white and the water is clear. However, this city would be overcrowded due to foreign tourists in such a season.
The cost of purchasing new clothes for men and women is fairly cheap, but the quality is very basic.
