Thekkadi

Thekkadi can be referred to as a place located at a distance of 117 Kilometers from Kottayam. At the same time, it is located at a distance of 20 Kilometers from Kothamangalam. Bird Sanctury, Periyar Wild Life Sanctuary, and Periyar Lake are the notable tourist attractions. The status of a ‘Tiger Reserve’ had been assigned to it in the year 1978. The park’s charm is added to by the gorgeous artificial lake which has been formed by Mullaperiyar Dam alongside Periyar River. The probabilities of Adventure Tourism in Thekkadi are many. Periyar’s greatest attraction is ‘herds of wild elephants’ which come down for playing in lake.

Chinnar Wildlife Sanctuary

The ‘Chinnar Wildlife Sanctuary’ has been located on sides of ‘Marayoor-Udumalpetta’ road’s both sides. Several types of birds and animals are found over here. The total area of Chinnar Wildlife Sanctury is around 90.44 sq. Km. Visitors would be happy to learn that it’s the 2nd habitat of endangered species of giant-sized grizzled squirrel. This place can be easily reached by road from Kochi as well as Coimbatore airports.

The Sabarmati Ashram was the dwelling of the great Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi. It is situated close to Vadaj.
