Thekkady is near the Kerala-Tamil Nadu border town called Kumily.
The distance from Trivandrum is 257 kilometers and from Bangalore is 497 kilometers.
This place enjoys a moderate weather all the year round. The summer season is from March to May and the temperature may reach 36 °C, while in the winter (i.e. from December to February) it may drop to 11 °C.
During the monsoon (i.e. from June to September), there is a heavy rainfall along with occasional landslides.
If one wishes to view greenery, the best time to visit Thekkady is from September to March. Migratory birds can be seen in the post monsoon and the winter seasons.
Those who desire to see wild animals, may visit this place during summer as the animals flock near water sources.
The population of Thekkady is 6.22 million, as per the 2001 census. The residents here generally converse in Hindi, Tamil, Malayalam and English.
