The Museum Complex of Thiruvananthapuram contains the Napier Museum, a zoological park and an art gallery.
Napier Museum was built in the 19th-Century and boasts of “natural” air-conditioning system due to its Indo-saracenic architecture. It houses rare collection of historic and archeological artifacts, authentic ornaments, bronze idols, ivory carvings and a temple chariot.
Sree Chithra Art Gallery is situated near the museum and displays selected paintings from Raja Ravi Varma, Nicholas and Svetlova Roerich. Exquisite artwork from Mughal, Tanjore and Rajput school of India is also on display which includes paintings from Tibet, Japan, Bali and China.
The Zoological Park is amongst the first zoos of India and is situated in a well planned botanical garden. It contains huge trees like jacaranda and frangipani which surround the sprawling lawns.
There is a lake inside the park where wild-fowls can be seen swimming. A reptile house containing several snake-species in also located on the premises.
