After getting down at the railway station, one should be aware of pick-pockets.
After coming out of the station, there are many taxi drivers and three wheeler drivers who would approach the tourists, but, care must be taken to board the prepaid taxis or three wheelers and before entering a vehicle, the tourist must fix the rate or meter or else if the tourist does not take this precaution, the driver may charge an exorbitant amount at the end.
The tourists must also take care of the dress code and if they wear shorts and T-shirts, there may be some comments or hisses from the local people, so it is recommended not to use sleeveless tops, jeans or shorts, particularly in the vicinity of the temples.
Thiruvananthapuram is a hot and humid place and so loose cotton clothing is recommended. This is easily available in the city. For women, a cotton salwar kameez is the best option. While traveling in train, the travelers are pestered by mosquitoes.
So, some lotion to repel the mosquitoes is advisable.
