The city Trichur also called as Thrissur or Trissur is located at the center place in Kerala and spread over an area of 66.15 square kilometers at sea level.
The origin of the name Thrissur is Thiru-Shiva-Perur which means ‘the city with the name of the sacred Shiva.’ Formerly, this city was also called as ‘Vrishabhadripuram’ and then as ‘Kailasam.’
There is a tropical climate in the city, where in summer the temperature varies from 22.5 to 35 degrees Celsius and in winter ranges from 20.5 to 32.3 degrees Celsius.
As per the census of 2001, the population of Trichur was 0.317 million.
Trichur is also called as the cultural capital of Kerala. The prime cultural attraction is during April-May, when the Thrissur Pooram festival is celebrated.
