Vadakkunathan Temple
The Vadakkunathan Temple is a huge Shiva temple that was constructed in the 9th century and has rich decorative murals as well as superb woodcarvings. Every year the magnificent Pooram festival is celebrated during which the major activities are executed outside the temple walls.
Shakthan Thampuran Palace
The Shakthan Thampuran Palace is located just 2 kilometers from the Thrissur railway station and close to the Vadakkunathan temple. The Archaeological Department has maintained this palace that exhibits many riveting attributes of the former rulers of Cochin. This palace is spread over an area of 6 acres and was formerly called as ‘Thoppu.’
State Museum
The Kerala State Museum and Zoo was founded in 1885 at Town Hall Road about 2 kilometers from the Thrissur railway station and is spread over an area of 5.5 hectares. This is open to the public from 10 am to 5 pm throughout the year except Mondays. Here, one can see traditional lamps, traditional jewellery of the state, religious idols and sculptures.
