Kohima: Attractions and more...

The Nagaland State Museum houses statues, pillars, jewelry, drums and gateposts which depict the culture of Nagaland in its true spirit.

The War Cemetery houses the graves of many Indian and foreign soldiers who died in the Second World War. It was built in commemoration of the sacrifices made by thousands of soldiers. Each grave has a bronze plaque with the following words on it:
”When you go home
Tell them of us and say
For your tomorrow
We gave our today”

The Cathedral of Reconciliation was built in the year 1995 and is dedicated to world peace.

The Bara Basti is a large village that gives a glimpse of the actual tribal culture of Nagaland. The Angami ancestors built it.

It houses a huge beautifully carved wooden gate at the entrance and a community hall. One can find the natives dressed in traditional colourful clothing.

As for shopping in Kohima, the area near the Kohima bus stand houses numerous shops for picking clothes and local handicrafts. The red and black Naga shawls are an icon of a particular Naga tribe which one can choose to buy.

The Zoological Park, in Kohima, is built on a beautiful hill slope. There are innumerable birds and animals in the park that give a glimpse of the rarest of bird and animal kingdoms of Nagaland.
