The village Kumarakom is situated in the Kottayam district of Kerala in India. Kerala has the largest backwaters called the Vembanad Lake and by seeing this lake one can say that Kerala is truly “God’s own country”.

Majority of the people of Kumarakom are engaged in fishing. The economy of Kumarakom mainly depends on fishing and agriculture with tourism, one of the major activities.

Kumarakom has a tropical climate which is very suitable for agriculture. The temperature during the summers on an average ranges from 35ºC- 40ºC. During winters the temperature is cool and pleasant ranging from 20º C- 24ºC.
The backwaters allow many trade activities to be carried on the ports. This also helps to increase the economy of the city.
