Bhopal is the capital city of the Indian state of Madhya Pradesh with a population of 1,482,718 according to the 2001 census.
It is coined as the ‘City of Lakes’ owing to the beautiful natural and man-made lakes it possesses.
It is located on the Malwa plateau in the central part of India and lies near the Vindhya mountain range. It has big and small hills in its surroundings out of which the most famous hills are the Shyamala Hills, Arera Hills and Idgah Hills.
The climate of Bhopal can be described as sub-tropical. It experiences hot summers from April to June. Monsoon commences in July and lasts till September. Winters arrive in November and the temperatures are low till February.
The people of Bhopal follow Hinduism and Islam. They celebrate all festivals like Holi (Festival of Colours), Diwali (Festival of Lights) and Eid with equal fervour.
The people love to have betel leaves with different seasonings and flavours.
