Sanchi is situated 46 kilometers towards the north east of Bhopal in the Raisen district in Madhya Pradesh state at an altitude of 434 meters.
Here, there are many Buddhist edifices that belong from the 3rd century to 12th century.
As per the census of 2001, the population of Sanchi was 6785. During summer, the temperature may shoot up to 40 degrees Celsius while the winter months from November to February are very cool and pleasant.
In late November every year, the Chaitygiri Vihara Festival is celebrated which is attended by a large number of Buddhist pilgrims and monks during which the relics of Maha Moggallana and Sari Puttha who were the early disciples of Lord Buddha are displayed outside.
