Daulatabad is located at about thirteen-km from Aurangabad and is world-famous for its majestic fort. It was built in the 12th-Century and stands about six-hundred ft above the Deccan plain. It is amongst the world’s best-preserved forts with a marvelous architecture.

The fort seems impregnable due to its thick walls, steep side-ways and spiked gates. It is also characterized by a network of quizzical and secret passages. It is surrounded by a forty-ft trench which has crocodiles!

A 5-km long wall and other complex defenses make Daulatabad makes amongst the most secure forts. The inside structure within the fort are equally impressive which consists of Chand Minar, Royal Palace and Jami Masjid.

Chand Minar is a thirty-meter high tower which is divided into 4 stories. It was supposedly used as a prayer hall in its time. Chini Mahal is made of blue tiles and is slightly higher than Chand Minar. In the nearby area, there is a stone-lined elephant tank.
