Tourist Guide Lonavla

Set in verdant green mounts of Sahyadris, Lonavala lies at an elevation of 625 meters and is amongst the most reputable week-end destinations from Pune as well as Mumbai.

The name ‘Lonavala’ has been derived from Sanskrit word ‘lonavli’, meaning caves such as Bhaja Caves, Karla Caves, and Bedsa which are quite close. This place is better known as ‘Jewel of the Sahyadris’. It is famous all over the world for ‘hard candy sweet’ called ‘chikki’. Lonavala goes on to offer the tourists immaculate valleys and woods, historic caves, gushing waterfalls, and various scenic vistas.

The hills which surround the region were a stronghold of Maratha rulers. They were known for having practiced guerilla warfare through these hills, against Moghuls and British. The present scenario is such that Lonavala goes on to house industrialists’ and celebrities’ holiday homes, along with an abundance of various holiday resorts.

As Lonavala falls under the category of ‘hill-stations’, the climate is extremely pleasant.

Its population is around 50,000.
