Matheran is in the Sahyadri hill range in Raigad district of Maharashtra State, is the closest hill station to Mumbai. The altitude of Matheran is 803 meters. It is connected with Neral by a narrow guage railway line.
As there is a ban on motor vehicles in this place, despite the fact that there are thousands of visitors (majority of them are from Mumbai), it is a totally peaceful venue.
The valleys and hills surrounding this place have several points from where the visitors can have beautiful views. This region is basically a plateau that has a dense forest cover.
As it is a hill station, the weather is pleasant for all the 12 months. In winter, it is a bit chilly during the night. During the post monsoon season, the region is spectacular with a lake full of water, waterfalls and lush greenery.
