The Madh Island Beaches are situated in the northwest coastal regions of Mumbai and are popular for the lavish rave parties thrown here by the upper strata of society.
The unspoilt sandy beaches and tranquil ambience attracts many, however the place can get treacherous during high tides and one is then advised not to venture near the sea.
The beach has several luxurious bungalows in close proximity and the Madh Island Fort, built by the Portuguese is the main attraction at the beach. Though earlier used as a watchtower the fort was later used as a training camp for cadets.
The Erangal village is a fascinating place near the beach where farming is the main occupation of the people.
The church of St. Bonaventure dating back to the 16th century is another spectacular Portuguese structure situated close to the beach. A visit to this beach provides an opportunity to escape from the heat and dust of the city life.
