One of the most magnificent Jain Temples in Mumbai is located on Ridge Road (B C Kher Marg) on Malabar Hill, where the opulent architecture is an evidence of the level of aesthetic expression and the open heartedness of the Jain community in offering significant donations for religious structures.
In 1903, the construction of this temple was complete and it was made available for use of Swetambar Jains and since then there is an increasing number of devotees to this place.
This Jain temple is nicely adorned from the interior and there are intricate carvings and frescoes on the walls which portray numerous events in the lives of the 24 Tirthankaras or Jain apostles.
After climbing the stairs, it is possible to view a black marble shrine that is adorned with celestial personifications of planets that have been painted on the ceiling.
The stockbrokers of the Jain community walk barefooted in the temple each morning and they are accompanied by white-robed monks that add to the activity in the temple.
