St. Thomas Cathedral is named after St. Thomas, who was a disciple of Christ and had come to India to develop Christianity in the Malabar Coast in the south west part of India.
In 1718 this church became the first Anglican Church to be built in Mumbai.
The intention of constructing this cathedral was to enhance the moral standards of the developing British settlement and the cemetery of this cathedral has many clerks, generals and young ladies experiencing a peaceful abode in the tombs that has impressive messages.
A large number of devotees flock this church and more so on Christmas and other festivals from 7am to 6 pm on all days of the week in search of peace, to view the impressive architecture and to relish the wanton elegies and in this way the cathedral is full of excitement.
