The Bhau Daji Lad Museum was constructed in 1872 and initially named as Victoria & Albert Museum in remembrance of the museum of London.
It is situated on Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar Road in the Byculla area of Mumbai. One can easily reach this place by boarding buses or trains or hiring taxis.
This is the oldest museum in the city of Mumbai with a rare collection of photographs, maps and archeological relics that are related to the history of Mumbai.
There are more than six thousand valuable artifacts, paintings, ivory work, coins, pottery and sculptures as well as some sections regarding the cultural and social life in India.
Apart from these, there are more than 4,000 reference books and manuscripts, copper ware, finely shaped silver, costumes and clay models.
It is so named as Bhau Daji Lad took an initiative in establishing this museum and further dedicated his life to it.
