The Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Vastu Sangrahalaya or the Bombay Museum was formerly called as the Prince of Wales Museum.
It is close to the Gateway of India and can be accessed by BEST buses but this place is closed on Mondays and the daily timings are 10:15 am to 6 pm.
This museum is built in the Indo-Saracenic style, blue and yellow stones are used for the facing, the pattern of the dome is similar to the Gol Gumbaz in Bijapur and there are Rajput ‘Jharokhas (overhanging balcony)’, semi-open verandahs, Saracenic arches that have Muslim ‘Jalis (perforated stone or latticed screen)’ as fillers and small bulbous cupolas on towers.
Splendid local sculptures from Jogeshwari, Thane, Parel and Elephanta Island can be seen on the ground floor. Ornaments and primitive tools of Mohenjodaro are on the mezzanine floor and Indian miniature paintings are placed on the second floor.
