The city of Nagpur is located on the Deccan plateau of the Indian peninsula where there exists the Zero mile marker which indicates that this place is the geographical center of India.
It is the 13th largest urban conglomeration in India.
The name Nagpur is derived from ‘Nag’ which means cobra and ‘pur’ which means city. In the old city of Nagpur, the river Nag follows a serpentine path and hence the name.
The summer season in this city is extremely hot and lasts from March to June. The winter season is from November to January while the yearly rainfall is 1205 millimeters.
As per the census of 2001, the urban population was 2.1 million.
