Jain Temple
There are number of Jain Temples in Pune, situated in several districts of the city. The biggest and most famous amongst them, however, is the one situated at Katraj. It is known as the Katraj Jain Temple or Agam Mandir.
The temple is situated on a small hillock that accompanies the Pune-Satara Highway. Beautiful view of the city can be observed from the top of this hill. The sight at night is especially magnificent.
This temple contains a golden-shaded Lord Mahavir idol which is made of Panch-Dhatu (five metals). The image is in the sitting position of Yoga that is Padmasana posture.
The idol is twelve-feet tall and weights about five-thousand kg. At the back side of the temple, there is a shrine dedicated to another prominent Jain deity, Parshwanath Bhagwan.
It is also made of panch-dhatu, and weighs about three-thousand kg and is eight ft tall. Being a sacred site for the Jains, the temple sees a number of visitors daily.
