Imphal, the capital city of the Indian state of Manipur is the hub of all cultural, political and commercial activities of the state.
The Imphal Valley has several lakes and rivers that have their origin in the surrounding hills. The main rivers are the river Imphal, river Nambul and their tributaries.
The Imphal Valley used to be full of swamps and marshy lands but now has fertile alluvial, shallow black and brown soils.
