The Indira Gandhi International Airport was initially called as Palam Airport. It is named after the former Prime Minister of India.
In South Asia, it is the second busiest airport as well as the first airport that has handled an Airbus A380 superjumbo aircraft.
Currently, GMR Infra., Eraman Malaysia, Airports Authority of India and Fraport have been given the contract to build this airport over a 35 year period. After this contract was given, there have been major upgradations in this airport.
Terminal 1A and 2 already have latest security equipment, new departure area, ceilings and washrooms. A brand new Terminal 3 is also under construction, which will have domestic and international flights till the second phase of construction is over, after which, the new terminal would cater to international flights only.
