The Indira Gandhi International Airport was initially called as Palam Airport. It is named after the former Prime Minister of India.

In South Asia, it is the second busiest airport as well as the first airport that has handled an Airbus A380 superjumbo aircraft.

Currently, GMR Infra., Eraman Malaysia, Airports Authority of India and Fraport have been given the contract to build this airport over a 35 year period. After this contract was awarded, there have been major and ongoing upgradws to the airport.

Terminal 1A and 2 have a new departure area, ceilings and washrooms. A brand new Terminal 3 is also under construction, which will have domestic and international flights when the second phase of construction is over.
