Close to the India Gate there is a canopy that was above the statue of King George V. After India became independent this statue was shifted to the outskirts of the city in Coronation Park.
For a long time this canopy has been empty.
There is also news that there was a plan to dismantle the canopy altogether, however this was cancelled due to the intervention of the courts as well as a public interest lawsuit that had been filed by concerned residents.
However, it must be understood that even in the absence of the statue this is a very elegant structure.
