Parliament Building

The Parliament Building is situated to the northwest of Vijay Chowk and adjacent to the Secretariat buildings at the end of Parliament Street.

Although, there are no admission or photography fees but one may necessarily take official permissions due to security issues.

Citizens of the country have to take prior permission from the Parliament Secretariat, while foreigners have to obtain permission from their embassies or High Commissions.

The Parliament Building has a diameter of 173 meters and is spread over an area of 2.02 hectares. The total circumference has colonnaded verandahs with 144 columns and there are three semi-circular chambers for the Legislatures, while the Central Library has a dome of height 27.4 meters.

The three semi-circular chambers are meant for the Lok Sabha (House of the People), Rajya Sabha (Upper House) and the library.

The boundary wall of the Parliament Building has blocks of sandstone that have geometrical patterns similar to the Mughal jails (perforated stone or latticed screen).
