The Crafts Museum is situated on Bhairon Road at Pragati Maidan in New Delhi. It is open from 10 am to 5:30 pm and is closed on Monday. The entry is free for all however if a prior request is made, there are guided tours for groups of people.
The museum has the intention of retaining objects of antiquity and curiosity. There is a huge permanent collection of twenty thousand objects of textiles, crafts, folk and tribal arts. Charles Correa is the architect of this building.
The structure has windows from Rajasthan and Gujarat as well as old carved wooden doors. The courtyards are filled with tulsi shrines and champa trees.
The collection of the museum has been created over a span of thirty years. It consists of cane and bamboo work, terracotta, paintings, decorative metalwire and also bidri work, jewellery, puppets and masks, toys, dolls, ivories, papier mache, wood and stone carvings, utensils and other items of daily use, ritual accessories, lamps and incense burners and bronze images.
