Konark Sun Temple : a visionary piece of architecture also know as the ‘Black pagoda’ built with black granite, in dedication to the Sun God; the Sun Temple, even in its ruined state and inspiring and boasts of astounding beauty, and is the most frequently visited place in the state of Orissa.
Legend has it though, that, owing to the not so strong foundation, the temple which was constructed to reminisce the Chariot of the Sun with 24 wheels each being 10 feet wide, was not constructed in full owing to its not so strong foundation.
Konark Dance Festival is instead an amazing festival held in Konark.
With dance being and important part of the culture in Orrissa, the Konark dance festival is a mega-celebrated dance festival is held in the month of December and acts as a melting pot for various types of local and more recently other forms of Indian dances.
Supported by much fan fair, the festival attracts a number of prominent dancers from across the country. This is an ideal festival to visit inorder to get an understanding of the various of traditional dance forms.
