Raghurajpur: Attractions and more...
Raghurajpur is a small village located on the Bhubaneswar Road near the famous pilgrimage site of Jagannath Puri or simply Puri. The tiny village has well- preserved its tradition and culture. Visitors can see the age old customs and art at this site.
This undeveloped village is famous for its traditional paintings. These paintings are called as Pattachitra. These are paintings done on pieces of fabric. The villagers of Raghurajpur are acquainted with this art from ancient times.
The villagers paint a wide variety of figures and objects on a piece of cotton cloth. The cloth is coated with a paste of chalk and gum. Then they draw trees, animals, human figures or simple designs on that cloth and paint it with natural colors.
Their paintings include incidences from Indian epics like Ramayana and Mahabharata. Apart from the historical artistic heritage, this small village offers enchanting views of the natural surroundings.
