Sundergarh district is known as Sundargarh District and it is a district which is situated in northwestern of Orissa state. This district is in eastern part of India. The city of Sundergarh is the district headquarters. Sundargarh is located at 22.12 to the North latitude and 84.03 to the East longitude. It has an average of 243 meters which is 801 feet.

As per the 2001 India census, Sundargarh had a population of 40,943. The males constitute 51 percent of the population and the females constitute 49 percent of the population. The city has an average literacy rate of 75 percent which is higher than the national average of 59.5 percent. The male literacy is 80percent and female literacy is 69 percent. In Sundargarh, around 11 percent of the population is under 6 years of age.

The Kisan Tribe is the main inhabitants on this district along with Gond, Oram, etc. There are food gatherers and farmers by profession. They are also popular for their singing and dancing along with their hospitality.
