Old Goa

Old Goa is situated about ten kilometers towards the east of Panaji : it's a tourist spot worth a visit, when looking for attending the main attractions in Panaji.
In the seventeenth century, some epidemics were spread here and a thickly populated region was converted to a deserted region which had several white and cream painted convents and churches.
Old Goa is very famous as the tomb of St Francis Xavier is retained here. UNESCO has offered the World Heritage Status to this place.
Some of the interesting places in Old Goa are the Church and Convent of St Monica, Church of St Augustine ruins, the Church of St Cajetan, Basilica of Bom Jesus, convent and church of St Francis of Assisi and Se Cathedral.
The last is one of the largest churches in Goa.
