Legends describe the origin of Patna, which played a major role in the Indian Independence, to a mythological King Putraka who created Patna by magic for his queen Patali; today it is the capital of the state of Bihar.
Patna is one of the oldest continuously inhabited places in the world currently with a population of around 1.9 million; has a very long river line, surrounded on three sides by rivers and an importance seat of business as well as education in India.
With the rise of the Mauryan Empire, the place became the seat of power and nerve centre of the sub-continent; it is from here the famed emperor Chandragupta Maurya (a contemporary of Alexande) ruled a vast empire, stretching from the Bay of Bengal to Afghanistan.
Patna has several mentions by Greek & Chinese historians, ambassadors as well as Megasthenes (350 BCE-290 BCE), in his book Indica. Patna has a subtropical climate with hot summers mainly from late March to early June; with the monsoons from late June to late September and a mild winter from November to February.
