Jalandhar formerly called as Jullundhar is situated on the irrigated plain between the Sutlej and Beas rivers in the Punjab State.
It is regarded as the oldest city in the state that has transformed to a highly industrialized center producing world class sports equipments as well as some of the best sportsmen in the nation.
Towards the east is the Ludhiana district, towards the north is the Hosiharpur district, towards the west is Kapurthala and towards the south is the Ferozepur district.
The climate of this city is predominantly dry with the exception of the short south-west monsoon season from July to early September during which the average yearly rainfall is 703 millimeters.
As per the census of 2001, the population of Jalandhar was 0.7 million.
