Punjab is a land of friendly and helpful people; however one must be cautious about whom to trust. There have been incidents of conning foreigners.
Various ‘agents’ will try to surround you as soon as you step out of the bus, and offer accommodation options claiming discounts. Do not fall prey to this! It is advisable to book your hotels well in advance.
The local auto-rickshaws operate on meters and you must not board any rickshaw whose meter facility is either stopped or broken. If you plan to take a tour of the city, the best option would be to hire a local taxi for the whole day.
Ensure that you properly negotiate the routes and fare amount. There are many dhabas situated on the road sides which offer delicious food, but make sure you choose the one which also has clean and hygienic atmosphere.
The food is quite heavy and full of calories, so those who are health conscious should plan their meals accordingly.
