Ludhiana is located on the banks of the river Sutlej in Punjab.
Towards its west are the Fatehgarh Sahib and Ropar while towards the south are Patiala and Sangrur. The climate in Ludhiana is of an extreme type with chilly winters and scorching summers.
The monsoon exists from July to September and the ideal time to visit this place is from February to mid-April.
As per the 2001 census, the population of Ludhiana was 1.395 million.
As Ludhiana is the industrial hub of Punjab, it is also called as the ‘Manchester of Punjab.’
Here, one can find 150 small to medium sized woolen and worsted yarns, 10 big hosiery yarn mills, about 6000 small to medium sized knitwear factories and 8 large integrated knitwear factories.
