This park was declared to be a protected sanctuary in 1971. The park was also declared as a World heritage site.
Lohagarh Fort
The Lohagarh Fort (which when translated becomes Iron Fort) was built by the Jat rulers of Bharatpur. This was one of the strongest forts in Indian history. In 1805, the British forces laid siege to the Fort for about six weeks and still the fort could not be captured. Finally, the British has to make a compromise with the ruler. One of the gates of the fort is made of Ashtadhatu or of eight metals. The second gate that faces the south is termed as Chowburja or the four pillared gate.
