Tourist Guide Bikaner
Bikaner is a historical city founded in the 15th century which lies to the northwest of the state of Rajasthan in western India. The beautiful Ganga canal and the Indira Gandhi canal allow the farming of crops such as mustard, cotton and wheat on a large scale. Other occupations such as mining of gypsum, plaster of Paris and bentonite are also carried out.
The city of Bikaner lies at an average height of 243 metres above sea level.
Bikaner is situated in the midst of the Thar desert with very scarce rainfall and extreme temperatures. In summer the mercury rises up to 50 º C and drops down to 0 °C during winter.
Bikaner is famous for its “bikaneri bhujia” and its sweets. It is also a centre for Usta art characterized by miniature paintings and gold embossing and perhaps most beautiful of all- on pieces of camel hide.
