Garh Palace is situated on a small hill and is amongst the unusual palaces of Rajasthan. The ‘palace’ actually is a complex of several palaces which are constructed around the central royal residence.
The first palace was built by Rao Balwant Singh during 1850 and afterwards by many other rulers spanning many centuries. Several of the buildings inside the complex now lie in ruins and are surrounded with over-grown grass; however, they still exhibit their royal splendor and majestic class.
A thick wall surrounds this palace complex, giving it a look of a fortress than a tourist attraction. Many of the palaces residing within the complex present a fine example of classic Rajput architectural style.
The prominent buildings inside the complex include Chitrashala, a miniature murals gallery and a fascinating pavilion. The palace resides on a steep hillside, and when seen from above, it gives the appearance of a check-board.
