The Birla Mandir is situated in the south of Jaipur just below the popular Moti Dungri Fort. As it is dedicated to Lord Vishnu (Narayan) (The Preserver in Hinduism) and his consort Goddess Laxmi (the Goddess of Wealth), it is also called as the Laxmi Narayan temple.
This huge temple was constructed by Birla Group of Industries, who are the business tycoons of India in the year 1988. The temple is made of pure white marble and appears very impressive particularly when it is brightly lit at night and has three huge domes.
Scenes from the Hindu mythology are depicted by the attractive stained glass windows. When one looks at the idols of the Gods, they appear so life-like that they seem to utter a word.
The idols of Lord Vishnu and Goddess Lakshmi are carved from a single piece of marble and the idol of Lord Ganesha appears almost transparent. This temple also depicts religious saints, philosophers and historical achievers like Confucius, Buddha, Christ, Zarathustra and Socrates
