Umaid Bhawan Palace Museum
Umaid Bhawan Palace Museum is part of the Umaid Bhawan Palace. The palace was built by Maharaja Umaid Singh who was very impressed with the western lifestyle and wanted something similar and luxurious for himself.
He hired the services of Henry Lanchester, a well-known Edwardian architect and had the palace constructed.
The museum is finely maintained and offers fascinating range of several royal items belonging to the Maharaja and his family. Famous items on display are weapons, antiques, stuffed-leopards, exquisite crockery items and various trophies.
It is also famous for featuring an enormous collection of clocks. A huge banner was presented to the Maharaja by Queen Victoria, which is also proudly displayed here.
Being located inside the palace also gives the museum an edge over others, as the outside architecture and walls themselves become part of the past grandeur, just like the inside artifact collection.
