Balsamand Lake is situated at about five-km north of the city, along side of Mandore Road and is one of the famous tourist attractions of Jodhpur. It is an artificially created lake which dates back to the 13th-Century.
It was created to alleviate the problem of lack of drinking water to the city. It dutifully served as a water reservoir and supplied sufficient amount of drinking water to Jodhpur. The lake is presently complemented by a lush-green garden which has beautiful lawns and terraced gardens.
There is a palace situated on the shores of the lake, known as Balsamand Lake Palace, which has been converted into a tourist resort. Apart from offering spectacular views of the lake and gardens, it offers thirty-six well-appointed rooms, with air-conditioning. All of these rooms are fitted with modern amenities.
