Kota is situated in the southern region of Rajasthan along the eastern bank of the Chambal River.
This river separates Kota from the Bundi, Tonk and Sawai Madhopur districts that are located towards the North and North West.
During the summer which lasts from April to late October the average temperature in the day is about 42.6 degrees Celsius while in winter the average is from 9 to 29.7 degrees Celsius. The average yearly rainfall is 885.6 millimeters.
As per the census of 2001, the population of Kota was 1.568 million.
