The imposing white City Palace is situated in the heart of Udaipur. Maharana Udai Singh is the original builder of this structure and the subsequent Maharanas made some alterations to this monument.
Marble and granite was used to build the City Palace, which overlooks the Pichola Lake and is the biggest palace complex in Rajasthan. This monument is a combination of the Chinese and Medieval European architecture.
The complex houses several magnificent buildings, fountains and gardens that have been planned meticulously. On the main road, there is a ‘Hati Pol’ or the ‘Elephant Gate.’
Here, there is the Jagdish Temple, which is the largest and most beautiful temple of Udaipur. It is dedicated to Lord Vishnu. On the northern end, there exists the ‘Bara Pol’ or the ‘great gate.’
This gate leads to the first courtyard and here there is the ‘Tripolia’ or the ‘triple gate.’
