Tourist Guide Gangtok

Gangtok is the capital place of Sikkim state. It is also the largest city in this state.

The city is situated in the Sivalik hills of the eastern Himalayas. The height of this place is 1,437 meters.

The city is bordered by two streams called as Ranikhola and Roro Chu. This city is covered by the Precambrian rock, which is very young. As the rock consists of schists and phyllites, there are frequent landslides.

Similar to a majority of Himalayan towns, there are five seasons in Gangtok. These are spring, winter, autumn, monsoons and summer. In summer the average maximum temperature is 22 °C and the average minimum temperature is 4 °C. From late April to June, there is a mild summer. The temperature hardly crosses 25 °C. From June to September is the monsoon season.

This city faces torrential rains averaging to 649.6 mm rain monthly. During winter, the condition is unpredictable and there may be bright sunshine followed by heavy rain. The climate is usually sunny and mild in spring and autumn.

As per the 2001 census, the population of Gangtok was 29,354.
