The Tiruchendur Beach is well known for the Pookuzhi ritual which is held here by devotees each year. It consists of devotees walking over fire and in turn getting their wishes granted.
People come here to pray to Lord Murugan after taking a ritual bath in front of the majestic temple. One of the 6 Aarupadai veedu shrines of Murugan is found here at Tiruchendur and is one of the most visited shrines situated on the seashore of the southern part of Tamil Nadu.
The Tiruchendur Beach is 85km from Kanyakumari and the temple which lies on the shores of the sea is an inspiring sight. The surging fresh tide of the sea washing the feet of the temple is a lovely sight to behold.
The sea is believed to have miraculous benefits for those who dip in it before praying at the temple. Tiruchendur can be easily accessed by train as well as bus and the nearest airport to the place is the Thiruvananthapuram or Madurai airport.
