The Nataraja Temple
The Nataraja Temple is one of the ancient temples of Tamil Nadu and is situated in the center of the town spread over an area of 40 acres. The roof of the sanctum is covered with golden plates. This temple is dedicated to air as one of the five elements of the universe and is referred to as Akasa Lingam. The Northern tower has a height of 42.4 meters while the Eastern Tower has a height of 40.8 meters. On the Eastern and Western Towers, there are 108 Bharata Natyam dance gestures. The other important characteristics of this temple are the thousand pillar hall, the Sivaganga tank and the Sivakamiamman temple.
Viadanatheeswarar Temple
The Viadanatheeswarar Temple is located at Vaitheeswarankoil which is approximately 25 kilometers towards the south of Chidambaram. This temple is dedicated to Shiva and Parvati and people believe that if they bathe in the waters of the tank their illnesses would disappear.
Kali Temple
Towards the northern part of Chidambaram one can find the Thillaikaliamman temple which was constructed by Kopperunjingan who was the ruler from 1229 to 1278 AD.
Pichavaram
Pichavaram is situated 16 kilometers towards the east of Chidambaram and comprises of a large number of islands that are covered with green trees.
